| Battery
|
| What
is the capacity of the battery? |
The
battery has 3.4 ampere hours. |
| If
the battery has been completely discharged - what is the charging
time? |
If
completely discharged the charging time is approximately six
hours. |
| What
kind of battery is it? |
It
is a lead battery. |
| Is
the battery self-discharging? |
The
battery cannot discharge itself - neither while installed in
the backrest nor while resting on the unplugged charger. However
we recommend instructing the user to always charge the battery
before taking a bath. |
| The
battery is completely charged - how often can the lift be used? |
Without
problems, at least twenty times. However we recommend informing
the user - as mentioned in the instruction manual - that he
should not exceed five times before recharging the battery.
We should also inform the user to charge the battery each time
taking a bath. Background information: We don't know the span
of time that elapses between two baths. The battery cannot discharge
itself ... just play safe! |
| What
happens if the battery is - almost - discharged? |
The
controller is programmed in a way that it recognises the remaining
capacity of the battery and ensures that the user will always
be lifted up to the seating position. |
| The
lift is in the seating or half-way-down position but the capacity
of the battery will not allow the lift go down and up again? |
...the lift will
not move down anymore and the red light in the hand-control
illuminates constantly. The battery has to be charged (If the
red light blinks the control unit is defective!)
|
| What
are the indications that the battery is probably defective? |
If the battery
has been charged for more than ten hours and the red light at
the charger has not extinguished.
|
| The
battery is defective: What has to be done? |
Return
battery and charger (because the charger can also be the cause)
to Dentler Rehatechnik. Please inform Dentler immediately by
telephone or fax. They will ship a replacement at the same time. |
| Is
there any possibility that water can get into the battery? |
In
principle no as the battery has been sealed. In addition
the battery has been placed in the top of the backrest. In consequence
the overflow of the bath has to be blocked before water can
touch the battery and the control unit. However before this
can happen the bathroom must be sealed to prevent water to find
its way out of the bathroom.
Even if the battery falls into the water nothing is going to
happen - due to the seal - the battery can be used further without
problems. |
| When
the lift is delivered is the battery in a charged condition? |
Before
leaving the factory the battery is checked and completely charged.
An insulating film prevents the control unit to be activated
or the battery to be discharged if handled improperly while
shipped. If the lift is in the original package - not used yet
- it can be operated. without any problems. However we recommend
to charge the battery before using the lift the first time...just
in case! |
| The
lift is in the seating position. On the hand-control the red
light is illuminated. The lift won't decline anymore but should
be removed from the bath while the battery is being charged.
What can be done? |
Just
pull the battery about five cm off the backrest and insert
it again. The red light will extinguish. Click the down button,
and the lift will go down in small steps. If it stops repeat
the procedure until the lift is in the downmost position. Then
it can be disassembled.
Precaution: This procedure should only be applied for
disassembly purposes not for bathing! |

| Charger
(integrated battery and charger unit) |
| How
do charge the battery? |
Connect
one end of the power cable into the opening of the lower part
of the battery and the other end to the power outlet. |
| What
are the "battery-is-being-charged" indications? |
The red light
is illuminated.
|
| What
indicates the battery has been completely charged? |
The red light has
extinguished.
|
| Where
has the charger to be placed? |
To
follow safety orders the charger has to be placed in a dry room/location
- the battery has to be charged there. |
| What
is the voltage of the battery? |
Maximum
12 volts. The safe low-voltage is transformed in the charger
from 220 volts to 12 volts. (Notice: That's why there will be
no danger if the battery is - by accident - charged in the bathroom.) |

| Control |
| What
components does the control block consists of? |
It
consists of the control unit located at the top of the backrest
next to the battery and the hand held control. Both are connected
by a cable. |
| What's
the function of the control unit? |
The
control is the "brain" of the lift. By using the hand
held control the lift is being moved up and down. Before lowering
the lift it recognises whether the battery charge is sufficient
to allow another raise. Only then it will enable the lift to
go down. |
| Where
is the control installed? |
The
control is inserted in the backrest next to the battery. |
| How
will the control be installed? |
The
centred contacts have to face towards the lift, the two close
to the side edges have to face the battery. The cable of the
hand hold control is led through the recess provided in the
backrest. The shape of the control unit and the recess for the
cable prevent wrong installation of the control. |
| What
is the function of the buttons on the hand held control? |
By
depressing the green buttons the lift will be lowered and raised.
The red button is for emergency stops. It should be depressed
if the lift cannot be stopped by one of the green buttons. |
| What's
the purpose of the small bulb in the hand held control? |
It
indicates defects either at the battery or at the control block.
If the bulb is constantly red the battery has to be charged.
If the bulb is blinking red then the control block has a defect. |
| If
the control block has a defect what has necessarily to be done? |
The
control block should be sent to DENTLER by your dealer. Please
inform DENTLER by phone or fax to insure that the replacement
is forwarded immediately and the user does not have to interrupt
his bathing habits. If available, the dealer could temporarily
take a control block from a new lift to cover the time needed
for transport. |
| What
happens if the hand held control will fall into the water? |
No
problem, the hand held control floats on top of the water, even
immersing leads to no problems whatsoever. |
If
not used where can the hand held control be stored?
|
By
use of the included suction hook it can be installed on each
side of the backrest (not on the seam). It can also be installed
on the tiles above the bath to avoid the user having to grab
behind. |
| A
remark to the design: |
The
shape of the hand held control is in part identical to the shape
of the backrest. |

| Backrest |
| The
backrest consists of how many parts? |
The
backrest itself consists of two shells that are manually assembled
and connected by four screws. |
| What
material is the backrest made of? |
The
material used is polypropylene. |
| How
is the backrest produced? |
The
backrest is produced by die cast (injection molding). |
| What
is the function of the backrest? |
It
has the supporting function for the user either in the upright
or the reclining position. Furthermore the backrest holds the
battery, control unit and the motor, the hand held control can
be attached to it. |
| How
can the backrest be adjusted to the different positions? |
The
lift has to be lowered to the bottom of the bath first. Then
pulling up the seat by one of the side flaps as far as it will
go while at the same time moving the backrest in the required
position.
The same procedure is possible in the upright position. Important:
The backrest may only be adjusted when the lift is either completely
lowered - when a further downward movement is not possible anymore
(preferred position) - or completely raised - when a further
upward movement is not possible anymore. |
| Is
there any problem if water gets into the backrest and into the
motor? |
The
construction cannot prevent water getting into the backrest
and making contact with the motor. It is harmless to the motor.
In tests the motor was submerged to absorb water. After the
water was removed from the motor it was put in operation again
without any problems. This test has been repeated at intervals
over a longer period of time. Operations gave no problems, there
also were no rust indications. There were no complaints whatsoever. |
| In
case of defect, can the motor be disassembled from the backrest? |
Yes.
The four screws on the rear side of the backrest have to be
removed. Once the backrest has been opened, four more screws
holding the drive must be removed. |
| What
material consists the cover of? |
It
is made of PVC.
|
Can
the cover be washed?
|
Yes.
In a normal washing machine at 60 degree - never use a tumble-dryer
- the material will shrink! |
| What
are the sizes of the backrest? |
Height
55 cm, width 34 cm.
|
| What
is the weight of the backrest? |
The
backrest including the drive has a weight of 8,34 kg.

| Seat
and Seating Height |
| What
is the size of the seat? |
Width
70 cm including the side flaps of 16 cm each.
Depth 47 cm. |
| What
are the seating parts? |
It
consists of three parts namely the seat itself and the two side
flaps. |
| What
is the purpose of the side flaps? |
They
make it easier to get in or out of the bath.
|
| Getting
in or out of the bath, what has to be observed? |
The
side flaps have to lie tightly on the edge of the bath. If the
bath is lower in size than the maximum height of the lift then
it must be lowered to the height of the bath by use of the hand
held control. |
| Why
are there no recesses at the rear end of the seating (compared
to competitive products)? |
This
makes it possible for the user to use both hands on the seating
for support getting in and out of the bath. Furthermore the
technique at the base plate is almost invisible - preventing
elderly persons from getting scared looking at it. |
| What
happens to the side flaps when lowering the lift? |
They
move upwards adjusting to the incline of the bath.
|
| If
there are handles in the bath how is it prevented that the side
flaps get stuck at the handles while the lift moves up? |
DENTLER
offers deflectors that are adjusted to the handles and enable
the side flaps to glide over the handles.
|
| Are
there any aids to support getting onto the seating? |
There
is
a) the swivel and slide-over aid, constructed in a way
that the user will sit on the swivel disk at the edge of the
bath then slide to the middle of the bath and rotate into the
bath.
b) the swivel disk that can be mounted in the middle
of the seat, the user has to glide to the middle and rotate
into the bath. The main use however is to have the disk in front
of the bath, have handicapped persons stand on it and turn them
toward the bath. |
| What
is the maximum height of the seating? |
The
seating can be elevated up to 42 cm. |
| What
has to be cared for in case the height of the bath is lower
than the maximum elevation of the seating? |
Bring
the lift to its maximum height. Stop. Decide upon the bathing
position. Then lower the seating until the side flaps rest on
the edge of the bath.
|
| What
can be done in case the bath is higher than the maximum height
of the seating? |
For
cases like that, adapters of two, four or six cm are available
and can be ordered.
|
| What
is the maximum load for the lift? |
The
instruction manual names 135 kg. There were no problems in endurance
tests with more than 7.000 motions and 150 kg. |
| What
is the downward inclination of the seating in case of maximum
load? |
It is
0,50 cm.

| Base
Plate and Scissor Mechanism |
| What
is the purpose of the base plate? |
Mounted
on the base plate are
1. brackets to snap in the spindle
2. guiding rails for the scissors.
Furthermore the base plate gives the lift highest stability. |
| What
are the material and the measurements of the base plate? |
The
base plate is made of polypropylene and produced by injection
molding. The measurements are: 29 x 59 cm
|
| How
is the stability of the lift achieved? |
There
are suction cups on the base plate that suck the base plate
onto the bottom of the bath. A further element of stability
is the high-quality material of the scissors. |
| How
can the lift be taken off the bath while the base plate is sucked
to the bottom? |
After
the lift has completely been lowered to the bottom and the backrest
has been taken off, you may grab underneath the base plate at
the opposite side with both hands and slide the complete unit
upwards to your side of the bath until the suction cups loosen. |
| Is
it possible to remove scissor mechanism and base plate brackets
from the base plate? |
No
problem. With the exception of the guiding rails of the scissors
all elements mounted on the base plate can be removed easily.
That is particular important for cleaning purposes. |
| What
is the material of the scissors? |
It
is stainless steel and therefore corrosion resistant. |
| Can
the metallic components rust? |
No,
because guiding rails, scissors, spindle and motor are made
of high quality stainless steel and don't rust. |
| What
is the weight of the seat unit? |
The
seat unit has a weight of app. 9,5 kg. |

| Cleaning
and Maintenance |
| How
can the covers be cleaned? |
They
can be washed in a common washing machine at 60°C. Never
use the tumble-dryer - the covers will shrink! |
| Why
is the DENTLER-Lift particularly service-friendly? |
It
has in particular been cared for smooth surfaces to enable easy
cleaning, service and maintenance. Only where technical requirements
have priority - e.g. guidance rails - there have to be compromises. |
| What
kind of cleanser can be used? |
The
covers can be cleaned without any side effects by desinfectant
of vinegar-base, lysoline or sagrotan.
Covers and all synthetic materials and metal parts can be cleaned
with customary cleansers for the bath, but not above 60°
C. |
| How
can contact springs (battery and control block) and contact
points (charger) be cleaned? |
They
have to be cleaned only by using a dry or moist cloth.
|
| How
can the battery and the charger be cleaned? |
For
both a dry or moist cloth can be used, but in no case dip it
into water or put it under a shower. |
| What
should be considered by using bath salts or grease removing
bath salts? |
For
prevention purposes the scissors should now and then be greased
with vaseline. |

| And
that's the way the lift is delivered |
|
| What
is in the cardboard box? |
The
complete seat unit, the completely assembled backrest unit and
the charger with main plug. |
| Can
the lift be operated immediately? |
Yes,
as soon as it is unpacked and the backrest is installed, the
lift can be used. |
| What
has to be considered before operating the lift? |
As
the battery has been loaded before transport there is an insulating
film between the battery and the control block. This has to
be taken away before going into operation. If there is no big
hurry to take a bath it is recommended to charge the battery
beforehand. In any case: each battery leaves DENTLER fully loaded. |
| What
happens before transport? |
Despite
being shipped pre-assembled, each lift and charger will be checked
for proper working conditions and whether the battery is fully
loaded. |
